The challenge
The World Bank CARE project needed regional data products that users across South Asia could rely on for agriculture and climate-resilience decisions. Land use and land cover change, and specifically cropland left fallow, had to be presented in a form that country users could explore without remote-sensing expertise, while being built and maintained by teams spread across several countries.
Approach
Suman scoped the products with distributed teams and regional users, and coordinated requirements, data processing, interface development, deployment support and stakeholder communication.
Land cover and fallow-land data were processed with Google Earth Engine and stored and served through PostgreSQL and GeoServer. The web front ends were built with React and Next.js.
The products were demonstrated at RDAS community-engagement workshops in Nepal, Pakistan and Bangkok, and user feedback from those sessions was fed back into the products.
