The challenge

Flood mapping in mountainous regions is difficult. Steep terrain, narrow valleys and frequent cloud cover make single-date maps unreliable, and teams working on flood risk need consistent, repeatable flood information across many events rather than one-off maps.

Approach

The study used Copernicus satellite data processed in Google Earth Engine to build a time series of flood maps for a mountainous region.

The work was published as a data article so the dataset and workflow can be reused by other researchers and practitioners.
