The challenge
Forecasters and disaster-management teams in four countries needed to view high-impact weather forecasts and flood predictions for their own territory, on the map, without handling raw model output. Each country had its own area, datasets and needs, and the tools had to keep working as new model and remote-sensing data and new requirements were added.
Approach
Worked with ICIMOD scientists and country teams to refine use cases for each country, assess technical feasibility of new requests and decide which datasets to integrate.
Processed model and geospatial data into formats suitable for map visualization, served gridded output through THREDDS Data Server and map layers through GeoServer, and integrated new model and remote-sensing datasets as they became available.
Extended the Tethys applications with new analytic tools and controls and upgraded the dashboards' UI/UX.
Coordinated releases and ongoing operational maintenance through Git-based workflows.
