The challenge
ICIMOD's regional programmes produce satellite, model and observation data for several countries, and specialists wanted that data available as interactive web applications rather than files. Many applications had to be built on a shared platform, kept up to date automatically and supported once in use.
Approach
Built applications on the Tethys Platform, working with regional specialists on requirements, technical design, testing, deployment and user support.
Wrote automation tools for ETL jobs that collect satellite, model and observation data, including Google Earth Engine processing and NetCDF/HDF scientific datasets, and load results into PostGIS or publish them as map services.
Installed and operationalized a THREDDS Data Server for serving multidimensional scientific datasets to the applications.
Took Tethys production and Tethys 2-to-3 conversion training (online, and in person at RCMRD, Kenya, in 2020) covering the Google Earth Engine Python API and THREDDS Data Server.
